Sitting on Saadiyat Island among some of Abu Dhabi’s most impressive cultural buildings, Guggenheim Abu Dhabi is set to open in December 2026.
Designed by the late Pritzker Prize-winning architect Frank Gehry, Guggenheim Abu Dhabi will be a museum focused on modern and contemporary art. You can expect a variety of artistic media, including painting, sculpture, installations, photography, moving images, and new media. It will also be a space for people to explore new perspectives, with art central to its mission of fostering a more connected and diverse global community.
And while the art will be the main attraction, the building itself is set to be quite the sight. Gehry’s distinctive design features a collection of sculptural cones, creating a dramatic silhouette across Saadiyat Island.
Some of the cones reach up to 88 metres high, but they are more than an architectural statement. Designed to provide natural ventilation and shade, they will also help improve the building’s energy efficiency while shaping its distinctive appearance.

You’ll find Guggenheim Abu Dhabi on Saadiyat Island, within Abu Dhabi’s growing cultural district. The museum will sit among an impressive collection of cultural institutions, making the island a must-visit destination for anyone interested in art, architecture and design.
With Louvre Abu Dhabi already drawing visitors to the island, alongside the upcoming Zayed National Museum and teamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi, Guggenheim Abu Dhabi will add another major stop to the city’s cultural map.
Guggenheim Abu Dhabi will span 11,600 square metres of interior gallery space, alongside 23,000 square metres of outdoor exhibition areas.
That expansive footprint will give the museum space for exhibitions, installations and cultural experiences, while the outdoor areas will offer another setting in which to experience art and architecture.
The museum’s focus on modern and contemporary art will also bring an international perspective to Saadiyat Island, creating opportunities to explore artists, ideas and stories from around the world.
The wait is nearly over. Guggenheim Abu Dhabi opens on 11 December 2026, giving art lovers and curious visitors another reason to make a trip to Saadiyat Island.
With its Frank Gehry-designed architecture, expansive exhibition spaces and focus on modern and contemporary art, this is one cultural opening worth adding to your calendar now.
