Set inside Atlantis The Royal—one of the world’s 50 Best Hotels—this wellness and spa spot, Awaken Wellness, offers a truly royal experience rooted in exceptional design. Discover the full review of this iconic retreat at Atlantis.
Tucked within the very extra Atlantis The Royal, AWAKEN Spa is anything but. There are no shiny logos, or over-the-top branding. No reminder that you’re in one of the world’s most recognisable hotels. You could be anywhere and that’s exactly the beauty. This is where you come to tune out, switch off, and press the internal reset button. It is the ultimate spa experience.

The design works in elegant contrast: dark, tactile corridors lined with ribbed metal and rough timber give way to smooth marble and flickers of light. It’s all been carefully considered, right down to the angle of the Italian marble veins, laid diagonally to channel energy without distraction (yes, really). Givenchy-inspired French panelling in the vestibules adds a dose of drama, and if you’re someone who notices these things, you’ll clock the quiet luxury of it all. It’s sensual but not showy. Everything has been chosen with longevity in mind, nothing feels trend driven.
Before your treatment, your therapist invites to select a crystal - Earth, Fire, Water or Air - which determines your bespoke oil and massage approach. I instinctively chose Earth, a grounding option that paired rhythmic palm pressure with a blend of Swedish, aromatherapy, and Reiki techniques designed to restore energy flow and melt tension.

Beyond the spa treatments, there’s a salt therapy cave, an alchemy experience shower -pure bliss- a snow fountain, hydrotherapy pool, and a plant-based refreshment lounge that you’ll struggle to leave. All products are vegan and cruelty-free, from cult names like Augustinus Bader to AWAKEN’s own signature line. You can just hear water flowing and birds chirping as you float between spaces. It’s worth booking a massage for the spa facilities alone, or simply for that rare feeling of stillness in a city that rarely slows down.
In a place wanting more - shinier, taller, louder - AWAKEN does something braver. This wellness space softens the edges. It leaves you alone. AWAKEN Spa, Atlantis The Royal, Palm Jumeirah.
Luxury doesn't come cheap here, and AWAKEN doesn't pretend otherwise. Treatments start from around AED 820 for an hour the AWAKEN Reiki Energy Therapy sits at that entry point climbing to roughly AED 1,080 for a 90-minute Deep Tissue Massage, and AED 1,200 for the signature 90-minute Golden Hour Massage, easily the most requested slot on the menu. The Hammam ritual, if you want the full scrub-and-steam experience, comes in closer to AED 900. None of it reads as casual spending, but then nothing about AWAKEN is designed to feel casual. Part of what you're paying for is the silence, and the fact that no one is trying to upsell you on the way out.
There's no à la carte add-on culture here either, which is its own kind of luxury. You won't be handed a menu of extras halfway through your massage, or nudged toward a retail shelf on your way to the changing room. The price you're quoted is the price you pay, and it covers full, unhurried access to the wet facilities before or after your slot not a rushed ten minutes squeezed in around a treatment schedule. For couples or those celebrating an occasion, the longer combination sessions are worth the extra outlay; splitting the cost of a 90-minute slot two ways softens the number considerably, and turns what could feel like an indulgence into something closer to a shared ritual.
Reservations are handled through atlantis.com or the hotel concierge, and — worth noting — you don't need to be staying at Atlantis The Royal to book in. AWAKEN welcomes external guests, which is precisely how a wellness space this considered ends up on so many Dubai residents' rotation rather than staying a hotel-guest secret. The spa runs from 11am to 8pm Monday to Friday, and 10am to 9pm on weekends, and advance booking is strongly recommended, particularly for weekend slots and for the more theatrical experiences like the Hammam. If you can manage it, go on a weekday morning. The corridors are emptier, the light hits the marble differently, and the whole place feels less like a destination and more like a secret.
Ramadan and peak winter season (think December through February, when half of Europe seems to have relocated to the Palm) are the times to book furthest ahead a week out at minimum, longer if you have your heart set on a specific therapist or the Hammam. Summer months, by contrast, tend to open up considerably, and you'll sometimes get a same-week slot without much effort. Whichever season you land in, confirm your booking a day ahead; hotel spas of this calibre do occasionally shuffle appointments around VIP requests, and a quick reconfirmation call spares you any surprises at the door.
You're given more than you'd think to bring. Robes, slippers, and infused water arrive without asking, and access to the salt therapy cave, snow fountain, and hydrotherapy pool is included whether or not you've booked a treatment that day. The product story is handled too — everything from Augustinus Bader to AWAKEN's own vegan, cruelty-free line is stocked and offered as part of the ritual, not sold to you afterwards as an afterthought. What you should bring: swimwear, if you intend to make full use of the wet facilities, and time. Arrive sixty to ninety minutes before your treatment slot to actually enjoy the spaces you've paid for, rather than rushing in five minutes before your massage and straight back out after. This is not a spa built for a lunch-break reset. It rewards whoever gives it the most room to work.
Leave your phone in the locker, quite literally — there's a quiet insistence throughout the space that you disconnect, and the design does most of the persuading for you. Lockers, slippers, and a private changing suite are yours for the day, and staff will talk you through the crystal-selection ritual before anything begins, so there's no need to research your options in advance. If you're arriving straight from work, ask about the express changing option; it's a small detail, but it means you're not scrambling in the taxi trying to shift from a boardroom mindset to a spa one. Give yourself the runway to actually make that shift, and the experience lands very differently.
Is it worth it? Yes, with the obvious caveat that this is a splurge, not a habit. AWAKEN earns its price tag less through any single treatment and more through the sum of the experience — the design restraint, the facilities you're free to linger in, a therapist who tailors the session rather than running a script. It's best suited to those who want a proper reset rather than a quick massage between meetings: book the longer slot, arrive early, and let the crystal choice at the start set the tone for everything that follows. In a city that rarely slows down, AWAKEN is one of the few places genuinely built for stillness — and it delivers on that promise more convincingly than most hotel spas twice its size.
