For those who love to draw and want to feel part of a creative community, the Saturday Sketch Club offers the perfect opportunity. Hosted by a London-based art school, Royal Academy of Arts, this monthly series of live-streamed classes is open to all—wherever they are in the world.

This session invites participants to explore the animal kingdom with artist and educator Lee Putman, known for his expressive depictions of wildlife and street dancers. Working from a live owl, Putman will guide attendees through the fundamentals of wildlife drawing. Through a mix of demonstrations and short exercises, he will help artists break down complex forms and focus on the details that give each creature its distinctive character.

The class takes place online via Zoom, so you can join from the comfort of your own home. The Zoom link will be sent by 3 pm the day before the event.

Whether a beginner or practising artist, the Sketch Club welcomes all levels and fosters a sense of connection across borders. All that’s needed is a pencil, paper, and an eraser.

Participants are encouraged to share their drawings on Instagram or X using #RASketchClub or join the dedicated Facebook group to connect with fellow creatives.

Can’t make it this weekend? Bookmark the next session on 10 May with Adebanji Alade – award-winning artist, educator, and President of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters. Known as The Addictive Sketcher, Adebanji brings high-energy, expressive mark-making to every class.
