Tashkeel, a leading art incubator in the UAE, has reopened its Nad Al Sheba 1 Gallery with a powerful new exhibition, ‘Of Liminal Threads’ by Syrian Lebanese artist and designer Ranim AlHalaky.

This marks the artist’s debut solo show and the latest outcome of the Critical Practice Programme (CPP), Tashkeel’s intensive, year-long residency that supports UAE-based artists with mentorship, studio access, and funding.

Founded in 2008, Tashkeel has played a pivotal role in nurturing visual art and design in the UAE. Its CPP, launched in 2014, empowers artists to develop ambitious, research-led projects with guidance from mentors and collaborators.

Of Liminal Threads, draws from personal memory, especially stories and rituals passed down from her late grandmother Omaya and translates them into a material language of cyanotypes, sound, and textile installations. Each work echoes themes of migration, memory and identity.

Structured in ‘chapters’, the exhibition invites viewers to navigate memory not as a linear timeline, but as a layered, immersive experience.

To celebrate the reopening, the Tashkeel Artist Collection debuts with limited-edition crockery designed by Ranim, allowing visitors to take home a collectible inspired by the show.

"Of Liminal Threads is more than an exhibition, it’s an invitation into a deeply personal yet widely resonant world", said Sheikha Lateefa bint Maktoum, Founder and Director of Tashkeel.

The exhibition is now open to the public at Tashkeel Nad Al Sheba 1 and runs through November 2025.
